On May 8, 2004, LAPD Police Chief failed to show up at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, where a rally was held for David March, murdered by Armando Garcia who fled to Mexico. Bratton had previously confirmed that he would attend the rally as a quest speaker but failed to show up. Some speculated that when Bratton got wind of a planned demonstration against him, he chickened out.

About 12 demonstrators handed out flyers which pointed to Bratton as part of the problem. We were dissappointed that Bratton didn't show up. If he had, we would have raked him over the coals.

I and some of us were concerned that we might offend someone by our political presence. But we were relieved to find a resounding "thumbs up" to all of us. Comments like "keep up the good work, " "Bratton sucks," etc. On three occations, some of the deputies who ventured over to talk to us, themselves indicated that they were in full agreement with us. We were however, dissappoined that the press, who may also have been concerned about offending someone, avoided us.

More demonstrations are planned.
